Basic Instructor Training Courses

The Goal of Basic Instructor Training Courses is to train accomplished and experienced shooters to become Instructors in the Basic Course Disciplines of the National Rifle Association. These courses must be taught according to and in compliance with the curricula provided by the NRA Training Department. Only well motivated experienced firearms users are eligible to become Instructor candidates. The first portion of instruction in the path to becoming an NRA Certified Instructor in any discipline is the successful completion of the “Basics of ‘Discipline’ Course,” followed by the Basic Instructor Training course, or BIT course. The BIT is a 6 hour course of instruction in, the NRA teaching methodology, as well as considerations regarding your responsibilities as an NRA Certified Instructor.

Only after your completion of the BIT Course can you move forward with your chosen discipline specific course of training. Once the BIT is completed successfully, you may continue expanding your instructor credentials across additional disciplines for a period of two years, after which you will be required to retake the BIT prior to taking additional instructor courses.

Because the BIT course is good for two years, there are not as many candidates taking the BIT at any given time, as a result it is sometimes difficult to fill the required four seats to run the class. Therefor it is not offered as frequently as the discipline specific courses of study.

It is not possible to list the BIT course as a stand alone course on the NRA website.  In order to simplify record keeping and scheduling I have created this registration page exclusively for the BIT courses we have scheduled.

Once I have received your registration via the form below, I will reach out to you via the contact information you provide with further details as well as to field any additional questions you may have.

I genuinely look forward to assisting you in your progress toward becoming a Certified NRA Instructor. —GARY
