About Our Courses
Our courses are scheduled on an appointment basis and can be arranged wherever possible to fit your schedule. Depending upon the course topic, class size will be limited from one to a maximum of four students. My idea here is to run these classes on a demand basis tailored to the specific needs of the individual(s) and their desired outcome. A hint here, while some classes demand one on one, the rest are generally more fun if a buddy is involved where possible. I am available by phone to discuss your goals and suggest an appropriate course, or to design one specific to your needs. The following is a list of “In The Can” courses available. This list can also serve as a launching platform for content requests. I look forward to hearing from you!

What Ammo Shortage? OK the ammo shortage is abating, but the prices are still bonkers. Stuffing your own not only saves you cash, but how rewarding is firing your own home built ammo? Answer, VERY! I learned long ago that I can brew better beer than I can buy, and the same is even more true when it comes to ammo. We will cover everything you need to perform this joyous process from the very minimum, to the Jezzuz, I wanna have’s. Included are all the processes, the where to find data, the sequence of events, proper storage of the materials, safety considerations and the incredible safety record of hand loading. You will leave the class with rounds you have manufactured in .223, 308, 30-06, 38 spl, 9mm or 45 ACP. We will discuss the advantages and liabilities of progressive and single stage presses, as well as die types and options. This is an approximately 8 hour class and limited to 4 students.
Pre-requisite: Metallic Cartridge Reloading (Basic), or minimum of two years independent reloading (there will be a quiz) This course will cover setting up a progressive press (Dillon) and from that point we will move to the single stage press for advanced accuracy techniques. This class is largely a classroom situation with dialogue, and will be oriented to focus on Handgun or Rifle Cartridges. Read that as volume vs. precision. Limited to 1 student
The course will cover the course of fire, equipment, the must have, nice to have, and maybe overkill to have. Once all the equipment is discovered, we’ll move into how to use and orient the equipment for your match or practice. Positions and alternate positions will be introduced and demonstrated. Lastly we will cover the techniques and methods for firing the shot and sight corrections. We will get geared up and practice positions in class. Range days can be scheduled for individual coaching sessions. Limited to 2 students.
The course will cover the course of fire, equipment required and prohibited, the difference between match and service categories, classification placement and award distribution. Coaching and Pit Service will be explained. Firing positions and alternates will be demonstrated and practiced in class. We will also cover techniques and methods for firing the shots and magazine changes required. Limited to 2 students. Range days can be scheduled for individual coaching sessions.
This class can be fired either with Smallbore or High Power SCOPED rifles. It is a one on one range day class. We will cover equipment options briefly but most of the class will be technique development with dry practice and live fire. We will be shooting a reduced 200 yard range. Limited to 1 student.

Also referred to as “Bullseye Shooting” this is the “traditional” one hand target competition in the following possible combinations, Smallbore (22) Slow Fire, Timed and Rapid Fire, and may or may not include 3 Gun (22. Center Fire, and 45ACP), Duelo ISU etc. We will introduce all the disciplines and equipment requirements and restrictions, as well as range commands, and protocols. We will introduce sighting options as well as ammunition recommendations. From this point we will proceed to covering position, grip and trigger techniques.Options for Clubs to join for competition will also be covered. Range days can be scheduled for individual coaching sessions. Limited to 2 students.
Charcoal burners are just too much fun! Our class will cover all the material you will need to know regarding firing black powder firearms, both flint lock and cap lock. We will also cover the legal implications of black powder handguns within the People’s Republic of New York. We will include a range day (separate from class) with this class during which you can fire either your own or one of my rifles. Our range day will be approximately 3 hours in duration. Limited to 2 students.
Flintlock or Cap lock muzzle loaders are fun, but after building your own to hang on the wall, decorate your den, or actually take out and fire, the fun gets even better. This class will either get you started by earning all the steps, or we can structure the class as a hands on work shop over several weeks as your project progresses. We can go from kits, or you can take advantage of the myriad on-line possibles vendors and select your own wood, lock works, barrels and trim. We’ll make your class a memorable experience and you’ll have a beautiful new antique to ogle and shoot. The course will be short sessions over as much as several months beginning to end. You will advance at your own pace.
Black Rifles are ok, but gimme wood and blued steel anyway. There are many tricks and processes to wring the most accuracy out of many older rifles. You can build up a terrific match rife, F-Class, or benchrest piece from as little as an action, or an intact bolt action, but picking the right one is as important as what you do with it. Learn the selection process and/or bring your candidate along and we’ll go over your options. Yes we can offer suggestions for your mouse gun too. This class has no actual curriculum, but rather is a collaborative effort to get your firearm dropping into the 10 ring consistently. The course will be short sessions over as much as several months beginning to end. You will advance at your own pace.
(I help with approach and monitor work, you perform it.) The first rule with collectable forearms is “Don’t Touch It!” But if you have a nice shooter or grandpa’s old squirrel gun and you’d just like to Gussie it up a tad, this is the course for you. We’ll cover how to do as much as you can to restore the bore, the bluing, and refinish the stock as well as dressing up any additional hardware she wears. Minor issues with operation cane addressed, but this is NOT a gunsmith course. You will perform all the work after I demonstrate what you will need to do. The course will be short sessions over as much as several months beginning to end. You will advance at your own pace.
This is a live fire session during which I will monitor your shooting and offer my coaching advice limited to rifle or handgun sessions. These are private coaching sessions only.
